This position is located in the Mayor's Office on Latino Affairs (MOLA) under the jurisdiction of the Executive Office of the Mayor. The mission of MOLA is to ensure that the Latino community has full access to quality health, education, employment, and social services in the District. The overall goal and objective is to improve on the quality of life for Latino residents of our nation's capital by working with DC Government agencies and community-based organizations to fulfill the Mandate of aLA, including the "Language Access Act of 2004".
This position functions as Advocacy and Language Access Coordinator for aLA, responsible for providing coordination to cover entitles in the implementation of the language access plans; to provide technical assistance to agencies named under the Language Access Act of 2004, so that the HispaniclLatino individuals living in the District of Columbia are better informed, represented, and served; and to provide policy recommendations on improving language access to Limited English Proficient (LEP) individuals.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
BACKGROUND AND REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
There is a legal requirement that each new appointee to the Excepted Service either: (1) be domiciled in the District of Columbia at the time of appointment; or (2) establish District domicile within one hundred eighty (180) days of appointment. The law also requires that Excepted Service employees maintain District domicile during the period of the appointment. Failure to maintain District domicile during the period of the appointment will result in forfeiture of employment.
