SALARY RANGE/GRADE: Excepted Service ES5, ($60,896 to $91,344)
HIRING PREFERENCE: District of Columbia residents who are also veterans will receive extreme priority in selection.
This is an Excepted Service position. Selected candidate must be a District resident or establish residency within 180 days of hire.
The Office of Veterans Affairs was created as an entity under the Executive Office of the Mayor in October 2001. The office was established to provide veteran benefits, assistance, information, outreach, effective advocacy, claims processing assistance and service provider coordination to veterans and their families so that they can access their entitled resources and benefits. The office also develops, coordinates and attends veteran commemorative events that recognize the military service and sacrifice of District of Columbia veterans. COMPETENCIES, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
There is a legal requirement that each new appointee to the Excepted Service either: (1) be domiciled in the District of Columbia at the time of appointment; or (2) establish District domicile within one hundred eighty (180) days of appointment. The law also requires that Excepted Service employees maintain District domicile during the period of the appointment. Failure to maintain District domicile during the period of the appointment will result in forfeiture of employment.
