The Rental Housing Commission is an independent, quasi-judicial body, that Issues, amends and rescinds regulations that are promulgated for enforcement of the Rental Housing Act of 1985. The Commission is charged with enforcing the Act. Additionally, the commission will publish the annual adjustment of general applicability to rents and/or rent ceilings, which adjustment is based upon annual changes (if any) in the Consumer Price Index (CPI-W) for the applicable region in which the District of Columbia is located; and
Decide appeals brought to the Commission from the Rent Administrator and the Office of Administrative Hearings (OAH). Commissioners are nominated by the Mayor and confirmed by the Council of the District's of Columbia for a three (3) year term. This commissioners must be eligible for full time employment with District of Columbia. Candidates can not have conflicts or cases before the commission.
